Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s net worth falls by £6bn as new figures are released

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has dropped to fourth place in the Sunday Times Rich List for 2024.

The annual list includes the wealthiest individuals or families living in the United Kingdom, ranked by net worth. This year’s edition includes 350 individuals and families with a combined fortune of £795.361 billion and is topped by businessman Gopi Hinduja and his family for the third consecutive year.

Jim Ratcliffe has seen his net worth fall this year, with the Ineos founder having an estimated net worth of £23.519bn. The 71-year-old was second on the list in 2023, with an estimated net worth of £29.688 billion.

It was confirmed on Christmas Eve last year that Ratcliffe and his Ineos group would buy a stake in Man United. The deal was made official in February when it was announced that the billionaire’s total stake would be 27.7%.

Ratcliffe’s Ineos now run football operations at Old Trafford and they have already made some notable changes. Omar Berrada is set to become the club’s new CEO, having joined from rivals Manchester City and will officially start his role this summer.

Jason Wilcox has also joined from Southampton as technical director as the club look to agree terms with Newcastle over compensation for director of football Dan Ashworth.

Asked in February about his involvement with United, Ratcliffe said: “We’ve got a really good relationship with Joel and Avram, who are the only two of the brothers I’ve met and known, actually.

“And I think there’s a fair amount of trust between the two sides. And obviously they feel very comfortable with us running the sporting side of the club.

“This is going to be a very sporting club, it’s going to be all about performance on the pitch. I’m still a significant shareholder even in terms of everything else in the club. Obviously we’ll be on the pitch, while the Glazers are at a good distance.”
