The University of Birmingham is launching three new online programmes.

Three new online courses will meet the growing global demand for online studies

The University of Birmingham has launched three new online programs as it continues to meet growing demand for high-quality web-based studies.

Applications are now open for the new programs:

Delivered entirely online, the programs build on the University’s existing web portfolio, including Birmingham Business School’s online MBA program, which was recently placed in the Financial Times’ Top 10 Online MBAs in the World.

Professor Corinne Boz, Academic Dean of the University of Birmingham Online commented: “I welcome the launch of these programs which expand the portfolio of online courses at Birmingham. The programs are learner-centred in content and design and aim to support learners, regardless of their location, to engage in rigorous academic study that will support career development and enhance professional practice.”

PGCert Online Higher Education Policy in practice bridges the gap between professional and academic roles. Graduates could pursue senior academic or professional roles – such as director, head of department, academic dean or vice-chancellor – or one of many roles in government or commercial partners, while mingling with the same roles within their cohort.

This program was developed by researchers from the Education Equity Initiative – led by Professor Chris Millward, who spent 20 years in UK government working on higher education policy.

Professor Millward’s team has a wide and diverse background in research and practice – collaborating across disciplines to develop this interdisciplinary programme. The team used data science and design thinking, as well as educational studies, to analyze higher education policy and practice from a range of disciplinary lenses and global perspectives.

Online MSc Mental Health it brings together disciplines from psychology, neuroscience, sociology and social policy to medicine, philosophy and education. The curriculum provides a comprehensive understanding of the field and, as the UK’s only interdisciplinary distance learning MSc in Mental Health, provides a unique opportunity to develop a holistic view of mental health prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research.

The program is led by industry specialist Dr. Roxana Baiasu, assistant professor, Institute of Mental Health, School of Psychology. A teaching and research expert with over 20 years of experience in UK higher education, Dr Baiasu also has nine years of experience in distance learning and online teaching at the University of Oxford.
