Stellantis is recalling more than 1.2 million Ram 1500 trucks in the US

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for 1,227,808 of the 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 vehicles in the US from Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, for a software defect.

The software defect can cause the anti-lock braking system (ABS) control module to disable the electronic stability control system, the recall report states. If a driver drives their vehicle with an electronic stability control system disabled, it can increase the risk of a crash, the report said.

Additionally, the automaker said it is recalling 7,299 MOPAR ABSs used as replacement parts in the recalled vehicles.

“FCA is not aware of any related injuries or accidents,” Stellantis spokesman Frank Matyok said in a statement to USA TODAY. “In accordance with regulations, affected customers will be notified by first class mail. The company urges customers to follow the instructions therein.”

NHTSA said the Ram 1500 “does not meet the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems.”

To fix the problem, dealers will update the ABS control module software. This service will be completed free of charge. Withdrawal notification letters are expected to be sent on October 3rd. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. The FCA US, LLC number for this withdrawal is 85B.

Recalled vehicles:

  • Ram 1500 2019

  • 2021-2024 Ram 1500

Matyok said additional Ram 1500s are being recalled in the following countries:
