Trump wants to be able to fire the vice president who hides the president’s incapacity

Former President Donald Trump has called for an amendment to the Constitution, saying a vice president who tries to cover for a president’s incapacity should be immediately impeached and removed from office.

Speaking at a campaign event in Mosinee, Wis., on Saturday, Trump said he would “support amending the 25th Amendment” to support impeachment of a vice president who “lies or engages in a conspiracy to cover up the inability the president”.

“If you do this with a cover-up of the president of the United States, it’s grounds for immediate impeachment and removal from office, because that’s what they did,” Trump told the crowd at the rally.

The 25th Amendment states that if the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office, the vice president will step in to take over the top job.

It’s not the first time Trump has criticized Democrats for switching their presumptive presidential nominee from President Joe Biden to Vice President Kamala Harris.

He has often accused the Democratic Party of causing the Trump camp to waste “millions of dollars” to attack Biden.

“We didn’t fight a vice president,” he said at a rally in Michigan on August 29. “I didn’t even know who the hell she was, and then all of a sudden they said, ‘Joe, you’re losing badly, you’ve got to get out.’

Harris strongly defended Biden’s mental capacity after June’s disastrous presidential debate, in which Democrats and donors questioned his fitness to run for re-election.

Asked by CNN if she regretted insisting that Biden was fit to run, she said she did not.

“He has the intelligence and the commitment and the judgment and the disposition that I think the American people rightfully deserve in their president,” she said in the interview shortly after becoming the Democratic nominee.

Representatives for Trump and Harris did not immediately respond to an after-hours request for comment from Business Insider.
