Stellantis recalled 1.46 million vehicles worldwide

Chrysler parent Stellantis said on Saturday it was recalling 1.46 million vehicles worldwide because of a software flaw in the anti-lock braking system that can increase the risk of a crash.

The recall includes nearly 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks from the 2019 and 2021-2024 model years in the United States, as well as approximately 159,000 vehicles in Canada, 13,000 in Mexico and 61,000 outside North America.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a software glitch can cause the electronic stability control system to be disabled by the anti-lock braking system control module.

The issue means the vehicles do not meet a federal motor vehicle safety standard for electrical stability control systems.

Stellantis said that if the problem occurs, the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning indicator lights will illuminate when the vehicle is started, indicating that the systems are not working. Basic braking would work, he added.

The company said it is not aware of any related injuries or accidents.

Stellantis also said Saturday that it was recalling about 33,000 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles because of a potential internal short circuit problem in the instrument panel.
