The durable vintage eyewear pop-up brings timeless style to Sheffield

Think vintage shopping, and you’ll probably imagine flipping through jumbled sales or downloading the latest app.

However, Sheffield’s vintage fans got the chance to indulge their ethical glasses shopping habits after a pop-up shop came to town last week.

Wakefield-based Retro Spectacle uses pre-worn frames with new lenses to take a greener approach to fashion.

Some frames date back to the 1960s, adding to the business’ extensive vintage collection.

Emily Charlotte, owner of Retro Spectacle, said: “We work with a lot of film companies and stylists who supply glasses for productions.

“Many of our pieces have been worn by A-list celebrities!”

Miss Charlotte is a qualified optician so Retro Spectacle can fit prescription lenses into any frame you choose.

In addition to prescription glasses, they also offer vintage sunglasses, clothing and jewelry.

“We now have wholesale stock as opticians want to have more sustainable and greener brands in practice as well.”

Sheffield is familiar with the sustainable fashion industry, with many vintage shops dotted around the city.

Retro Spectacle has traveled across the UK, with pop-up shops in major cities such as London and Leeds and taking part in vintage festivals.
