Here’s what CNBC TV producers were watching as the stock market rallied on Monday and what’s on the radar for the next session.

Apple’s big iPhone launch

  • Apple unveiled its latest lineup of iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods at its much-watched “Glowtime” event on Monday, but investors didn’t seem impressed. Shares fell as the event got under way, but staged a late-day rally to close in the green.
  • Shares hit an all-time high in mid-July and are up nearly 7% from those levels.
  • However, Apple was the second best performing “Magnificent Seven” stock over the past three months.
  • The group was led to disadvantage by Google-parent Alphabetwhich is down almost 15% in three months, and Nvidiadown almost 12%.
  • Meanwhile, Apple is up more than 12% over the past three months. It’s just behind adzewhich increased by 22% during that period.

Apple’s performance over the past month

Oracle earnings

  • The “old school” tech giant reported earnings after the bell tonight.
  • Shares rose in after-hours trading after the company posted earnings and revenue that beat expectations.
  • The day after the last June earnings report, ORCL shares rose 13.3%. Stock up 11% in the last three months and has increased by almost 33% this year.
  • By comparison, the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) it’s up about 5% over the past three months, and this year it’s up 4%.
  • The Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLK) it is down about 4% in three months and is up 7% this year.
  • The Nasdaq Composite it’s down about 1.5 percent in three months and up a little more than 12 percent this year.

Big order

  • Monday marked Brian Niccol’s first day as CEO of Starbucks. Shares rose just over 1 percent.
  • Niccol takes over from embattled former chief Laxman Narasimhan, who became CEO in March last year. Under Narasimhan, SBUX shares fell 7.6%. The stock is down 14% from its 52-week high last November.
  • Niccol was previously CEO of Chipotlea role he took on in March 2018. During his tenure, CMG shares have risen nearly 750%.
  • Chipotle’s stock hit an all-time high in June, just before a 50-for-1 stock split took effect. Stock down 21% from that top.

Starbucks performance in 2024

Cancer drug results

  • Actions of Summit Therapeutics rose 56% on very high volume after its lung cancer drug showed significantly better results than of Merck Keytruda in phase 3 studies.
  • It was the stock’s best day since May, when it rose more than 270%.
  • The stock is trading at an all-time high, up more than 630% this year.
  • Meanwhile, Merck fell 2% on Monday.
  • Summit was the best stock in both SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (XBI) and iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB).
  • Monday’s second-best biotech stock was Therapeutic relaywhich is up 52% ​​from the positive results of its breast cancer drug.

Taking Off

  • Airlines among the best-performing stocks on Monday, with US Global Jets ETF (JETS) gaining 2.6% and posting its biggest close since July 31.
  • JetBlue was the biggest gainer with over 7%. The latest move came after Bank of America upgraded the stock to neutral from underperform. The company raised its revenue guidance last week.
  • United Airlines rose about 6%, the biggest gain in the S&P 500. It posted its biggest close since late June.
  • American Airlineswhich will switch from the S&P 500 to the mid-cap S&P 400 starting Sept. 23, rose nearly 4%.

Performance of the JETS ETF over the past month

New S&P companies

  • Speaking of S&P changes, two of the three newest members of the benchmark S&P 500 ended higher on Monday.
  • Palantir rose 14%, the best day since February. It posted its highest close since February 2021. The price has more than doubled this year.
  • Dell Technologies increased by almost 4%. It’s up nearly 40% this year, but down 40% from its record high at the end of May.
  • Insurance company Erie Allowance decreases 0.6%. It’s still up more than 50% this year and hit an intraday high during the session, dating back to its 1995 IPO.

CNBC will interview several market-moving CEOs on Tuesday

  • AT&T’s John Stankey is on at 10 a.m. ET. Shares rose 2.5% on Monday, hitting a new 52-week high. Increases by 8% in one week. The dividend for AT&T is 5.2%.
  • Michael Arougheti by Ares Management it is also at 10 am. The stock is down 10% from its July 31 high.
  • Larry Culp of GE Aerospace is live at 13.00. The stock is 7% off its 52-week high. It rose 2.5% on Monday but is down 5.3% so far in September.

Apple suppliers

  • Apple’s new iPhone event left the stock flat.
  • But some of the suppliers have moved.
  • Arm holds will be a major player in the new iPhone. Shares rose 7% on Monday. It remains 33.5% from its July high.
  • Taiwan Semiconductor increased by 3.8%. The stock is 16% off its 52-week high hit in July.
  • Broadcom rose 2.8% on Monday. The stock is 24% off its June high.
  • AMD also increased by 2.8%. That’s 40% off the March high.
  • Cirrus Logic rose 1.7% on Monday. It is 8.7% as of August 29 high.

Report GameStop after the bell on Tuesday

  • The up-and-down video game retailer reports Tuesday afternoon.
  • Shares are 63% off their May high.
  • GameStop up about 11% in the past month.

Basel III

  • CNBC’s Leslie Picker will report on what could be big news for banks on Tuesday.
  • Before possible news, Wells Fargo is up 12.7% from the 52-week high hit in May.
  • City Group is up 12.2% from the July 17 high.
  • Bank of America it is 11% off its 52-week high, also reached on July 17.
  • Morgan Stanley is down 10% from the July 16 high.
