How to watch, stream the Harris-Trump presidential debate live online, free and without cable

A lot has changed since Donald Trump and Joe Biden met for the first debate of the 2024 campaign in June. Biden, of course, is no longer in the race — and Trump is now tied with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, according to many polls.

So the stakes will be higher when the candidates face off in a one-on-one showdown Monday night — and a strong or weak performance could have a big impact on the vote in November.

Have questions about the debate? We have answers.

When is the first Harris-Trump debate?

The debate will take place on Tuesday, September 10 at 9:00 PM ET.

Who is hosting the Harris-Trump debate?

ABC is hosting the debate and will simulcast it online.

How long will the Harris-Trump debate last?

The debate is scheduled to last 90 minutes.

I can look at Harris-Trump free debate if I don’t have cable?

Yes, easy. ABC is hosting the debate — and all four broadcast networks plan to carry it live, as does PBS. Air viewing requires an over-the-air antenna. And you’ll want to test that equipment in multiple locations around your home to find the most reliable signal.

How can I stream the Harris-Trump debate online if I don’t have a cable subscription?

If you don’t have an antenna, ABC will stream the debate in several online platforms, including the ABC News website, as well as other Disney properties, including Disney+ and Hulu. (Other networks are likely to stream ABC on their site as well.)

Other options include:

Disney+

The Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle no longer has a free trial, so you’ll have to pay $17 a month for all three combined (or $30 a month for no ads on Hulu).

Including Live TV in the package, which you’ll need to watch the debate, raises the price to $77 per month ($90 without ads).

Hulu with Live TV

Also, the free trial period of this service is no longer offered. It will now cost you $77 per month.

MAX

The former HBO-Max, owned by CNN’s parent company, will carry the debate live. Subscriptions start at $10 per month.

YouTubeTV

After a trial period of up to two weeks, you can expect monthly fees of $73.

Sling TV

Dish Network’s “Orange” Sling plan will cost you $40 per month. Adding the more comprehensive “Blue” plan increases the cost to $55 per month. The seven-day free trial is gone, but the cord-cutting service is offering 50% off your first month’s bill.

DirecTV Stream

Formerly known as DirecTV Now, AT&T TVNow and AT&T TV, this oft-renamed streaming service will run you $80 a month or more after the free trial option.

Fubo TV

This sports-focused cord-cutting service offers broadcast networks in most markets. There’s a seven-day free trial, followed by monthly fees of $80 and up, depending on the channels you choose.

What are the rules of this presidential debate?

The candidates went back and forth over the rules of this debate. The Harris campaign wanted the microphones on all the time, while the Trump campaign wanted them on only for the candidate’s turn to speak. In the end, the Harris campaign agreed to the muted microphone rule, but said it would protect Trump from direct exchanges with the vice president.

There will be no live audience for this debate, nor will the candidates make any kind of opening statement. And only moderators can ask questions. There will also be two commercial breaks, but candidates will not be allowed to talk to their staff during those times.

Who is moderating the Harris-Trump debate?

ABC hosts David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate tonight’s debate.

When is the next presidential debate?

She is still an unknown. While the Harris campaign said in August that both campaigns had agreed to three debates before Election Day, the Trump campaign has not confirmed that. No other debate between Harris and Trump is currently scheduled.

Vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz will meet on October 1 in a debate hosted by CBS.
