Coventry store raided with £5,000 worth of Fairy, Colgate and Mars stolen

Police raided a store in Coventry which was said to be selling around £5,000 worth of stolen goods. Officers found hundreds of stolen items when they visited the unnamed store on Stoney Stanton Road.

Officers from Foleshill SNT, working with Trading Standards, visited the store in the town on Monday (May 13). It followed suggestions that the stolen items were being stored and sold.



Police discovered a large amount of stolen coffee, deodorant, medicine, chocolate and washing powder, the total amount believed to be worth around £5,000. Cadbury, Fairy, Colgate and Mars were just some of the big name brands found at the store on Stoney Stanton Road.

All the items are believed to have been stolen from a number of shops in the city before being sold at the store at a later date, West Midlands Police said. A 50-year-old man will now be interviewed voluntarily while inquiries continue.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We fully understand the impact and frustration shoplifting can have on businesses of all sizes. As part of our more local policing model, our investigation, neighborhood and response teams are now working more closely together to prevent and tackle crime affecting our communities.

“Using the knowledge of local officers and working with store security, we are able to more quickly identify suspects and any emerging trends or hotspots. We regularly carry out high visibility patrols in retail areas, along with other activities, to track and catch criminals.”
