Willo: Recruitment Tech Startup Raises Funding From Former Mimecast CEO

Founded in 2018, Willo provides companies in over 180 countries with technology to conduct and process video interviews for job candidates. Based in Glasgow, Scotland, the startup works with brands such as Prada, Samsung and Toyota to streamline their hiring processes.

Willo started as a tool for companies to hire sales teams without going through many physical resumes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has evolved to become a solution for remote employment using video technology. The company offers one-way recorded video interviews to help employers get what it describes as unbiased and consistent responses from candidates. Its platform has been used to hire 633,000 people, according to Willo’s pitch deck.

“We’ve become a more mature product now, with companies able to interview in many different ways,” Euan McCameron, CEO at Willo, told Business Insider. “We are now able to leverage data from thousands of interviews to enable employers to see candidate summaries and query things using AI.”

The company has secured ISO20071 verification, an independent information security standard, but still has room to expand and grow its offering, McCameron added.

The new funding comes in the form of a $2.4 million capital raise, with most of the capital coming from the family office of Peter Bauer, co-founder and former CEO of IT security company Mimecast, along with additional funding from existing investors. This raise brings Willo’s total fund to $4.5 million.

McCameron said Willo will increase its headcount from about 15 to 25 employees as it looks to expand into the U.S., where it plans to establish a more substantial presence.
