Iowa hotel worker charged with insurance fraud

An Iowa hotel worker has been charged with insurance fraud, the Iowa Insurance Division announced Sept. 10.

Jose De Jesus Rodriguez Esparza, 39, was charged with one count each of Insurance Fraud – Providing False Information (Class D Felony) and Identity Theft (Class D Felony). The charges against Rodriguez Esparza stem from an investigation by the Iowa Division of Insurance Fraud Bureau.

Rodriguez Esparza was injured while working as a cook at an Urbandale hotel. He filed a fraudulent workers’ compensation claim using a social security number that was later found to belong to someone else. Rodriguez Esparza used the fraudulent social security number to get a job.

Rodriguez Esparza was arrested on September 5, 2024 and transported to the Polk County Jail. Rodriguez Esparza is being held without bail.
