Complete street racing ban in force in Black Country

The High Court has issued a complete and final injunction banning “street racing”, also known as “car cruising”, in the Black Country.

Prohibits persons from participating, as driver, rider or passenger, in an assembly of two or more persons at which some of those present engage in motor racing or motor stunts or other dangerous or obstructive driving.

The ordinance, which was issued on February 27, 2024, also covers organizers and bystanders, prohibiting people from promoting, organizing or advertising assemblies, or attending an assembly as a bystander with the intent or expectation that some of those present will hire in the street. races.

The order covers all of the boroughs of Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall and anyone who breaks it will be prosecuted and could face penalties including jail time, a fine or a confiscation order.

The application was led by Wolverhampton City Council on behalf of Dudley Council, Sandwell Council and Walsall Council and supported by West Midlands Police.

The order and power of arrest will remain in force for a period of at least three years and will be subject to an annual review, with the next hearing scheduled to take place on 26 February 2025 at 10.30am in the High Court, King’s Bench Division , Birmingham District Registry at Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre, The Priory Courts, 33 Bull Street, Birmingham, B4 6DS.

Defendants wishing to submit any evidence in connection with the review hearing must do so by February 7, 2025.
