A pub in a small town north of Bristol, crowned the best in the West Country

A pub in Chipping Sodbury has been named CAMRA Bristol and District Pub of the Year for 2024. The Horseshoe, which is on the High Street, was awarded the title following a secret ballot.

The award covers the areas of Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Weston-super-Mare, Bath and North East Somerset. The pub outperformed all others after being judged on a wide range of criteria which included how well its real estate is kept, how warmly it welcomes customers, the atmosphere of the pub and the overall facilities it offers.

Pub owners Matt and Jo Lewis said: “We are absolutely delighted to accept such a prestigious award on behalf of The Horseshoe from CAMRA, to be recognized and noticed for how passionate we are as a team really blows me away. will never be satisfied and will continue to strive to make The Horseshoe a fantastic pub.”

The pub will now represent CAMRA Bristol and District as it heads to the regional final stage of the awards. The Horseshoe is located in a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 15th century and, legend has it, the pub is haunted. Some of its most interesting features include a sink in the cellar that is said to be over 500 years old, and some even believe there is a hidden chamber in there.

Recently refurbished and decorated, these days the pub offers seven ever-changing real ales to choose from, as well as a range of ciders, lagers, spirits, mixers and soft drinks. It also offers live music and events throughout the year, as well as live sports.
