These are the most pro-Israel American presidents

Since Israel’s founding in 1948, the United States has been a close ally, although there has been varying degrees of support from different presidents.

Based on each president’s policies, I’ve ordered them from most supportive to least supportive below. The most supportive president is at the end!

11. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Eisenhower provided minimal aid to Israel.

Eisenhower expressed far more caution toward Israel than other presidents. It also pressured Israel during the Suez Crisis of 1956, eventually forcing Israel to withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula.

10. Gerald Ford

Gerald FordFord offered help in general, but temporarily suspended it.

Gerald Ford continued military support for Israel, but relations were strained due to Israel’s refusal to enter into peace talks with Egypt. He even briefly suspended military aid in 1975.

Jimmy Carter continued to aid Israel, but pressured Israel to make concessions for peace. He is best known for his role in the Camp David Accords that led to peace between Israel and Egypt.

8. George HW Bush

Bush criticized Israel, although military and economic aid continued. Bush withheld some loan guarantees to pressure Israel to halt construction.

Obama’s relationship with Israel has been complex. It increased military aid and supported Israel’s defense system. However, he also criticized Israel and supported the Iran nuclear deal.

Kennedy was the first US president to sell advanced weapons to Israel, marking a shift toward military support. He also approved surface-to-air missiles at Israel, signaling America’s continued military support.

5. Richard Nixon

Richard Nixon provided substantial military aid, particularly during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. He pressured Israel to enter into peace talks, but his policy toward Israel was generally supportive.

Reagan was very supportive of Israel, providing increased military aid and advanced technology to help Israel fend off growing threats. There were some tensions, but Reagan was generally very supportive.

Trump brokered the Abraham Accords, easing relations between Israel and several Arab states.

Trump has been extremely supportive, recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and facilitating the Abraham Accords. He also maintained high levels of military aid to Israel.
