History may repeat itself – Hull KR have enough to deny Wigan a place at Wembley again

Former England captain Jamie Peacock explains why he believes Willie Peters’ side will have a second chance at lifting the Betfred Challenge Cup this year

They say history repeats itself and I think it might on Saturday.

It’s the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-finals with Hull KR and Wigan facing off just like last year. And just like then, I think KR will win again in overtime. There is a recent history between these two clubs who play a very similar style of football, they are both very tough, very competitive and extremely fit.

But at the moment, Rovers only have a slight advantage over Wigan. It’s only by the narrowest of margins, but I feel they have the edge. They served up an epic semifinal the last time Brad Schneider won it at the golden point, and I expect it to be the same just because of how similar the teams are.

Will go wire to wire with KR again fine. They will be desperate to get back to Wembley, but this time they will win.

Wigan are the same: they’ve won the Challenge Cup before under Matty Peet and we all know their history in the competition, so it should be an absolute classic. Both teams are fantastic to watch with two fantastic managers, with Willie Peters this week signing a new deal for Rovers.

In the other semi-final on Sunday, I fancy Warrington to see Huddersfield. Wolves have seen a great turnaround under Sam Burgess. They are a team that plays for their coach and one that now likes to defend.

“This is very different to Warrington. But they do a lot of things that are a joy to watch. A lot of that is based on choices, good attitude and hard chasing and hard work in defence. Huddersfield have been up and down under Ian Watson they can be very good or they can be absolutely hammered.
