Former MK Dons player George Baldock is set to leave Sheffield United

Former MK Dons defender George Baldock is set to leave Sheffield United after being released by the Blades.

Baldock is one of several previous promotion winners to leave Bramall Lane at the end of the Premier League season, with Oliver Norwood, Wes Foderingham, Max Lowe and Chris Basham set to leave the club.

The departures come after a difficult season for Sheffield United, with the Blades set to finish bottom of the Premier League with just 16 points from their opening 37 games and becoming the first team in Premier League history to concede over 100 goals in a spell – the 1992 season.

Baldock joined Sheffield United from MK Dons in 2017 and the defender moved from Milton Keynes to South Yorkshire for an undisclosed fee on an initial three-year deal. He previously made 125 appearances in all competitions for the club he started his academy with.

He played a role in both Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season, two consecutive seasons in the Premier League and their return as runners-up in the 2022/23 season.

However, Baldock’s availability has been hampered by injury this season, with the defender making just 13 Premier League appearances and just 2 in 2024.

Baldock also became a full Greek international after being eligible for the Greece national team through his grandmother. He received 12 caps for the Greece team, making his debut in 2022.

There has been speculation that Baldock could move to Greece after leaving Yorkshire, with the Star newspaper in Sheffield reporting that Baldock is in talks to join 20-time Greek champions Panathinaikos.
