The dangerous driver who ran a red light while fleeing Coventry police has been jailed

A LEAMINGTON man has been jailed after being found guilty of dangerous driving.

The incident happened on the afternoon of 3 August 2022 when PC Craig Stead of Warwickshire Police’s Operations Patrol Unit was on patrol.

He was in a marked police car when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by Samir Abdulrahman in Lillington Road, Leamington.

Seeing the police behind him, Abdulrahman sped away from the officers, overtaking other cars and running a red light.

The police chase ended when his car was stopped by a police officer on the A45 in Coventry.

After the stop, the police confiscated a knife.

At Warwick Crown Court, Abdulrahman, 21, of Hornsey Close, Coventry, was jailed for three months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. He was also found guilty of possessing a knife in a public place.

In addition to the prison sentence, he was banned from driving for 20 months.

PC Stead said: “The driving style displayed by Abdulrahman shows why we proactively police our roads.

“His driving put other road users and pedestrians at risk and he is behind bars.”
