Man fighting for life in hospital after stabbing in Longsight

A man is fighting for his life after a stabbing in Longsight. The man, aged in his 20s, was stabbed on Slade Lane earlier on Friday night.

A large cordon has been put in place this evening as police respond to the horror incident. Greater Manchester Police said a man in his 50s had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Pictures from the scene showed more cordons in place, with Slade Lane and the adjacent Slade Grove closed. Footage also reveals a large police presence as emergency services respond.

Police cars are at the scene and officers are patrolling the cordon.

A GMP spokesman said: “At around 6.15pm this evening (Friday 17 May 2024), we were called to reports of a stabbing on Slade Lane in Longsight, Manchester.

“Our officers along with colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service attended and found a man in his 20s with a stab wound to the chest.

“The victim was transported to the hospital where he is in critical condition.

“A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. Inquiries are ongoing at this stage.”


Investigating officers

Slade Grove appears to have become the focus of the police investigation this evening. Plainclothes officers were seen in the area, alongside colleagues in uniform.

Cord size is reduced

There were two cordons in place on Slade Lane near Worldwide Foods and the adjoining Slade Grove.

The cordon on Slade Lane has now been removed but remains in place on Slade Grove.
