Bristol’s Noods Radio launches fundraiser to buy home amid eviction threat

Noods Radio has started fundraising to save its Bristol base.

Mickey Zoggs, the pub which hosts the independent station, is at risk of closing its doors for good due to the end of its lease. The platform was told it would have to buy the building if it wanted to continue operating. Noods needs £70,000 for the building’s warehouse. At the time of writing, it has reached £11,648 of its target. If he can’t secure the building, he will use the donations to buy another space.

“We’ve been given an ultimatum,” the Noods team wrote in their Crowdfunder description. “Buy the pub or get out! This is our chance to keep one of three spaces in Bristol in community hands and still be a place for people.”

The statement continued: “Zoggs has become a hub for the local creative community, serving as a place for people to hang out, meet like-minded people and discover music.”

If Mickey Zoggs closes, Noods will be forced to end all of its community projects. These include a program to help women and non-binary people break into broadcasting and initiatives for aspiring young music industry professionals, as well as hosting nearly 230 artists a month on the radio station.

Noods Radio began broadcasting in 2015 and found a home in Mickey Zoggs in 2021. In the same year, it launched Noods Luvers, a subscription scheme designed to keep the station running. It has since hosted local residents such as Daniella Vinci, Carol Selecta, Public Affair, Bokeh Versions, Avon Terror Corps and Pressure Dome.

Earlier this year, Noods also started an artist development program called Bloom.
