Oil majors defeat US consumer lawsuit over production and prices By Reuters

(Reuters) – Several oil companies, including ExxonMobil (NYSE: ) and Chevron (NYSE: ) beat back a consumer appeal Monday that accused it of colluding with former President Donald Trump’s administration, Russia and Saudi Arabia to cut oil production, driving up prices at the pump.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco said the consumer claims were largely barred because they addressed political issues and sought to judge the oil production policies of foreign countries.

It also found a lack of evidence that oil companies violated antitrust law by conspiring to raise prices.

Among other defendants Devon Energy (NYSE:), Energy transfer (NYSE: ) LP, Occidental Petroleum (NYSE: ), Phillips 66 (NYSE: ), Continental Resources (NYSE: ), Hilcorp Energy and the American Petroleum Institute.
