Ronaldo will finally reach the Premier League if Joel Piroe wins promotion with Leeds.

Piroe models himself on the Brazilian superstar and has also learned from former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema. The Dutch forward took aspects of their games and took his tally for Leeds to 14 when he scored in their stunning play-off win against Norwich.

Piroe said: “Brazilian Ronaldo was one of the best strikers of all time and I loved watching his clips and learning from them. But the same goes for a striker like Suarez and Benzema. I would say those three inspired me.”

Piroe, 24, cost Leeds an initial £10.5m from Swansea in August and will have to pay a further £2m if they are promoted at Wembley on May 26. Leeds will consider this money well spent and Piroe believes they can finally win the prize. play-off at the sixth attempt.

“We think we can go up,” said Piroe, who has scored 41 goals in 91 league appearances for Swansea. “We trust each other and we believe in each other and we’ve got to keep believing. With the team we’ve got, we’ve got to back each other up and go out there and make it happen.

“I’ve never been to Wembley before. I didn’t know before going to Swansea that they were in the play-off final the year before in 2021 when they lost to Brentford.

“I’m very happy we’re going there now. We know it’s the end if you go to Wembley in the play-offs, but we had to look at it all one game at a time. We’re a bit relieved to be going to Wembley, but we also know the job isn’t done yet.”

Leeds may have produced their best performance of the season in beating Norwich 4-0, but Piroe insisted he can do better. He felt he could have had a hat-trick and was annoyed he didn’t take two chances in the second half.
