California commissioner has issued a moratorium on cancellations for wildfire victims

California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has identified areas in the vicinity of several large wildfires ongoing in the state that will be protected by a one-year moratorium on nonrenewal or cancellation of homeowners’ insurance due to fire risk.

Lara’s action is in effect for communities affected by the San Bernardino County Line Fire, the Los Angeles County Bridge Fire, and the Orange and Riverside County Airport Fire.

The action comes in the wake of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s emergency declarations.

The Bridge Fire east of Los Angeles has burned 54,690 acres, burned at least 33 homes and six cabins, and forced the evacuation of 10,000 people. The fire is 11% contained.

The Southern California fire line has burned 39,026 acres in the San Bernardino Mountains. It is 42% contained.

The Airport Fire in Southern California has burned 23,519 acres. It is 31% content.
