Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested in New York after the Grand Jury indictment

Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested Monday in Manhattan following a grand jury indictment, his attorney confirmed to Business Insider.

The charges in the indictment were not immediately known.

“Early this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY,” US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement posted on X. “We expect to proceed to unseal the indictment in the morning and we’ll have more to say at that time.”

Diddy has been embroiled in controversy for months following numerous allegations of sexual and physical abuse by his former romantic and creative partners. The music mogul’s Los Angeles and Miami mansions were the target of a Department of Homeland Security raid in March.

Authorities at the time did not provide additional details about the raid, but The New York Times reported that an official described the investigation as related to a human-trafficking investigation.

Combs has vehemently denied the allegations against him.

“We are disappointed in the decision to pursue what we believe to be an unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs by the US Attorney’s Office,” Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ attorney, said in a statement published by multiple outlets.

Agnifilo said his client “is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal.” He described Combs as “nothing but cooperative with this investigation” after voluntarily moving to New York last week “pending these charges.”

“Please reserve judgment until you have all the facts,” Agnifilo’s statement said. “These are the papers of an innocent man who has nothing to hide and looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

Agnifilo previously told BI that sex-trafficking allegations by Combs’ ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, sparked the investigation by prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.

Ventura first went public with his allegations in November 2023 in a lawsuit. The suit was settled for undisclosed terms. In May, CNN released a 2016 video showing Combs pushing, dragging and kicking Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel, prompting further scrutiny.

The ongoing legal turmoil has affected Combs’ business, with Combs selling his entire stake in Revolt, the media company he founded, in June.
