Stacks to bring Bitcoin to the Aptos network by integrating sBTC

Bitcoin (BTC) layer-2 Stacks integrates Bitcoin into the Aptos ecosystem. This integration will allow BTC to be used in decentralized applications (dApps) built on Aptos powered by the Move programming language.

Bitcoin integration will be through sBTC, a 1:1 BTC-backed asset that will allow Bitcoin transactions on layer 2 networks like Stacks. This integration will make sBTC accessible to all Aptos builders and users, creating new possibilities for Bitcoin functionality.

“The integration of sBTC on Aptos lowers the barriers between the world’s most adopted digital asset and the real-world, Internet-quality applications that Bitcoiners have been waiting for,” said Mitchell Cuevas, Executive Director at Stacks Foundation.

The integration aims to combine the security of Bitcoin with the scalability of Aptos, enabling developers to create innovative solutions in gaming, AI, social platforms, DeFi protocols and NFT markets on the Aptos network.

“This integration instantly makes Bitcoin highly capable beyond a store of value, enabling its use in complex smart contracts and decentralized applications,” said Bashar Lazaar, Head of Ecosystem and Partnerships at the Aptos Foundation.

Current Bitcoin holders will be able to participate in a wide range of applications on the Aptos Network, improving the utility of their assets within the ecosystem.
