Mark Cuban wants to eliminate Chinese imitations

In an X post on Wednesday, Cuban said he “had an interesting conversation with the @KamalaHarris team about protecting American companies from Chinese Knockoffs.”

“Calms are a blight on small businesses, costing them time, money and can put them out of business. Currently, all the marketplaces are doing is helping them play the mole game. Which I don’t think is enough Cuban said. added.

“We should require marketplaces to verify all foreign manufacturers selling on marketplaces that sell to US consumers. Any suggestions on the best approach?” he added.

Cuban did not say when the conversation took place or what other strategies were discussed.

Counterfeiters have found a way to capitalize on the rise of online shopping platforms. According to a report by the Office of the United States Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator, counterfeiting costs American businesses more than $200 billion a year and contributes to the loss of 750,000 jobs.

In February 2022, the Office of the United States Trade Representative named China the primary country of origin for counterfeit goods seized by US Customs and Border Protection.

“Kamala is focused on supporting and protecting American companies against unfair foreign competition. Let me know what you have to say!” Cuban wrote on Wednesday.

Cuban and Harris campaign representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.

This is not the first time Cuban has voiced support for Harris’ economic agenda. The “Shark Tank” star has been a vocal supporter of Harris since she took over as the Democratic nominee from President Joe Biden.

“I talk to them. I tell them I’ll say what’s on my mind. They say, as long as you say you’re not speaking for us, go ahead,” Cuban said of his conversations with the Harris campaign, per Axios.

Cuban previously expressed interest and support when Harris said he would lower drug prices “by taking the middlemen out of pharmacy.”

The billionaire tried to achieve the same goal with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs Co., a low-cost online pharmacy he co-founded in 2022.

“Kamala Harris is pro-business,” Cuban said in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Sept. 5.

“She’s talked more about entrepreneurs and helped them get access to investment and made it easier for people to invest in startups than any president I’ve ever heard talk about startups and entrepreneurs,” said Cuban, CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin.
