Chevron CEO: Biden’s LNG moratorium is failing on all fronts

Chevron CEO Mike Wirth issued a dire warning at Tuesday’s Gastech conference in Houston, criticizing the radical energy policies of the Biden-Harris administration — specifically the moratorium on new liquefied natural gas export permits. He warned that these policies raised prices and “undermined energy security” for America’s key allies.

Wirth said the “attacks on natural gas” and a moratorium on new LNG export permits at terminals along the Gulf Coast put “politics over progress” and would derail climate efforts such as the transition from coal to NatGas .

“It increases energy costs by removing potential supply from the market,” said the CEO of the second largest US oil producer, adding: “It threatens reliable LNG supplies, undermining energy security for our allies. And it slows the transition from coal to natural gas, which means more emissions, not less.”

He continued: “When it comes to promoting economic prosperity, energy security and environmental protection, a pause that allows LNG fails all three.”

In January, the White House off new LNG export licenses. At the time, I pointed out to readers that this move by far-left radicals in the Biden-Harris administration, which appeared to punish Texas over the border dispute, was possibly part of a campaign by wealthy donors, including The Rockefeller family – to put pressure on the government to abandon LNG.

Wirth called out the Biden-Harris administration for their ridiculous attacks on fossil fuel energy while claiming that a climate crisis will doom the planet unless more solar panels and wind turbines are installed on the grid.

In 2022, the executive told Bloomberg TV in an interview that the last refinery built in the U.S. was in the 1970s. He said, “My personal view is that there is a will never be a new refinery built in the United States”.

The good news in July is that a federal court overturned the export moratorium on the LNG permit. However, since the ruling, no more licenses have been issued amid industry-wide uproar over disastrous environmental policies imposed by the White House.

Wirth said, “Instead of imposing a moratorium on LNG exports, the administration should stop the attacks on natural gas.”

Internally, unprecedented strain on the US power grid is starting to materialize due to electrification trends, including AI data and energy-efficient electric vehicles. Nationwide regional grids reduce fossil fuel power generation with unreliable solar and wind power, but any new nuclear power development (the best source of clean energy) could take years and or decades to come online.

He indicated that the switch from coal to gas could be “the biggest carbon reduction initiative in history”.

However, there is no compromise with climate change activists in the federal government. It’s unsafe green energy or nothing.

Wirth called for a “more balanced conversation about the future of energy,” adding, “These elections should be based on real science and unbiased data, untainted by advocacy agendas.”

Instead of listening to kids and radicalized climate change activists who wear crisis blinders and can’t make rational decisions, it’s time to get people back into positions of power in government that are grounded in reality. The era of letting woke politicians run the show has been abysmal and kills a nation on a long enough timeline.
