Jewelers Mutual expands to NC Office Tower, warns of nationwide store break-ins

Jewelers Mutual Insurance, one of the nation’s largest and oldest jewelry-focused insurers, plans to lease an entire floor of a new office tower in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, a move that will create approximately 200 work, according to several news agencies. .

Wisconsin-based Jewelers Mutual Group, founded in 1913, already has regional offices in Dallas and Miami. The 31,000-square-foot expansion in Raleigh, a nearly $6 million investment, was facilitated by about $3 million in economic development and tax incentives approved by the North Carolina Economic Investment Board last month, Axios Raleigh reported and other news sites.

Another $150,000 in incentives will come from Raleigh’s city and county governments. The capital beat out other cities in the race, including Dallas, the Raleigh News & Observer noted.

Coincidentally, the news came a day before the Jewelers and Jewelers Security Alliance warned of an unprecedented rise in break-ins and burglaries at jewelry stores across the country.

“Sophisticated, organized travel gangs believed to be linked to South America are carrying out burglaries with historic frequency and severity and remain at large, targeting jewelers across the country. The danger is real and the threat is growing,” Jewelers Mutual said in a bulletin.

Gangs of burglars have targeted jewelery shops, breaking through the roofs and walls of neighboring shops using torches, grinders, crowbars and other tools. The insurer urged stores to test their alarm systems and cameras and cooperate with local law enforcement.

Prosecutors in Georgia said this week that several robberies were orchestrated by a prison inmate serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery, an Atlanta television station reported.
