Plan a ‘future-proof’ city in Greater Manchester

Trafford town hall bosses are drawing up a new plan to ‘future proof’ Urmston town center for the next 15 years. This follows the first of a series of public consultations held at Urmston Library on March 21, which was attended by 200 people.

The next event takes place online tomorrow (Friday Maria 17) and will run until Sunday 2nd June to give people the chance to say what they like and don’t like about Urmston and how it could be improved. Advisory panels from the in-person event are available to view on the online consultation webpage, as well as additional information and an online survey. A link to the online consultation of the Urmston Plan is at Trafford Council’s Urmston Plan – Citizen Space – Citizen Space.

The consultation is an opportunity for the council and its appointed consultants to gather ideas from the local community, which can then inform the new Urmston Plan. Trafford Council has appointed AEW Architects to lead the preparation of the Urmston Plan and they will be supported by Avison Young, Vectos and CW Studios.

Councilor Liz Patel, Trafford council’s executive member for economy and regeneration, said: “It’s important that local residents and businesses get involved as we develop new plans for Urmston town centre. We want to ensure that a positive vision is created for Urmston that works for the community and businesses.

“Trafford Council is committed to improving all of our town centres, including Urmston. The new Urmston Plan will set out a framework for the town center that meets the needs of residents and businesses now and in the future and will form the basis for applying for funding when it becomes available. Please take this opportunity to have your say.”

The Urmston Plan is being developed with funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Leveling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion for local investment by March 2025.
