How Spurs could miss out on Europa League if they lose to Sheffield United – The Spurs Web

Tottenham’s final game of the season against Sheffield United is far from a letdown, with Spurs needing a point to secure Europa League qualification.

Spurs missed out on Champions League qualification after a 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on Tuesday, with Aston Villa finishing fourth.

However, Tottenham are now in danger of being overtaken by Chelsea on the final day of the season and could subsequently enter the Europa Conference League depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final.

Permutations for Europa League qualification

Chelsea are three points behind Spurs on a better goal difference heading into the final matchday, meaning that if Tottenham lose at Bramall Lane and Chelsea beat Bournemouth, the Blues will finish fifth and secure the passage to the Europa League.

If that happens, Ange Postecoglou’s men will face a nervous wait for the outcome of the FA Cup final, as a Man Utd victory over Man City would see the Red Devils qualify for the Europa League and Tottenham be sent to the Conference League.

Spurs can clinch fifth place and Europa League qualification if they avoid defeat at Sheffield United.

Spurs Web Opinion

Europa Conference League football is the last thing anyone at the club would want and it would be quite embarrassing to finish below Chelsea given how poor the Blues have been for much of the campaign.

It is therefore imperative that we get at least a point at Bramall Lane, which should not be a difficult task given how poor the Blades are and the fact that they have nothing to play for.
