TUI passenger loses £1,300 after making ‘impossible’ booking mistake.

A TUI passenger lost £1,300 for a simple booking mistake while organizing a holiday. Alan Straughan battled with TUI for weeks to get a simple flight error changed after he booked to fly to Tenerife in the Canary Islands with his wife in June.

Alan intended to book return flights from Newcastle Airport to Tenerife, departing on June 11 and returning on June 22 at midday. But when the confirmation email landed, he noticed that the return flight said it left Tenerife at 9.05pm.

It would mean bringing him back to Newcastle at 1:30. He immediately contacted TUI online and then by phone to ask them to change the flight time, but was told he would either have to stick with the booking or cancel it and lose 70% of the cost.

“I’m at my wits end with this issue, it looks like TUI are trying to rip me off and hope I’ll accept the booking,” Alan told The Sun newspaper after realizing he’d lost 70% of the cost. from the holiday would equate to £900.

“I don’t live near the airport and can’t drive there and back at that time of night.” TUI escalated Alan’s complaint after the Sun newspaper got involved on his behalf, the newspaper reported this weekend.

TUI, which flies out of Birmingham Airport and is rivaled by the likes of Easyjet, Ryanair, British Airways, Wizz Air and more, contacted him directly to apologize for the poor customer service. TUI has now refunded him the full £1,340 so he can book his trip abroad, the tabloid also reported.

A TUI spokesperson said in a statement: “Our team has now contacted the customer and resolved this directly with them.”
