European shares steady ahead of data-packed week By Reuters

(Reuters) – European shares opened on a subdued note on Monday as investors remained cautious ahead of a series of key economic data from the region during the week.

The pan-European index was flat at 514.43 as of 0710 GMT.

Eurozone flash PMI data for September is scheduled to drop at 0800 GMT, while German and UK flash PMI figures are due at 0730 GMT.

France flash PMI figures for September are due at 0715 GMT.

Board members from the European Central Bank are due to speak later in the week, with Frank Elderson and Piero Cipollone speaking later in the day.

Among individual stock moves, TotalEnergies ( EPA: ) gained about 1 percent after the oil giant said it would supply Air France-KLM with up to 1.5 million tonnes of more sustainable aviation fuel.

Shares in Germany’s Commerzbank (ETR: ) fell 4.4 percent as the government said it would keep its 12 percent stake in the lender, which is likely to hold up any merger with Italy’s UniCredit.

AstraZeneca ( NASDAQ: ) fell 1% after its experimental precision medicine developed with Daiichi Sankyo failed to significantly improve overall survival of patients with a type of breast cancer in an advanced-stage study.
