Comedian Rosie Jones quits social media because of ‘hate center’

Rosie Jones, the comedian who lives with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects speech and muscle coordination, has decided to cut ties with X (formerly Twitter), due to repeated “hurtful comments”.

In a message she later deleted from the site, Rosie revealed: “I haven’t felt much joy from this social media platform in a long time so come and see I’m trending once again is exhausting. I could say that comedy is subjective, but the truth is that the comments are hurtful. I used to like Twitter, but I don’t care for this hate center.

The “Out of Order” presenter opened up about the constant trolling she experiences and how it has forced her to develop resilience. She told The Guardian: “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t upset, but luckily I’m surrounded by such a strong network of friends, family, brilliant colleagues who support me. Do I need a thick skin? Hell yeah, but I can turn it off, I don’t look at social media when I’m on TV.”

The 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown regular also mentioned her desire to focus on the positive impact she has as a role model for other people with disabilities. She continued: “I focus on the positives – the people who come up to me and say, ‘I’ve never seen disability portrayed like you’, or if they’re disabled, they come up to me and say, ‘Thank you for making us . to feel seen, worthy and valid”.

Rosie said working in television can be difficult and admitted that if her condition was “a bit more serious” it could pose even greater challenges. She added: “If I had another disability or if my cerebral palsy was a bit more severe, it would create more problems,” reports Wales Online.
