The RFK Jr.-Nuzzi affair was an open secret in some circles

It seems the relationship between journalist Olivia Nuzzi and former presidential candidate, whaler, and her one-time subject and source, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., hasn’t been kept quite as quiet as the pair — or at least Nuzzi — probably hoped

Since news of the affair and Nuzzi’s suspension from New York Magazine broke Thursday night, it has generated dozens of reports and countless tweets. But apparently it had already been a topic of conversation in certain circles.

Following the initial news, The Daily Beast reported that the relationship between the star reporter, 31, and the Kennedy scion, 70, had been somewhat of an open secret. On Sunday night, Semafor’s Ben Smith wrote that the store also received a tip about the scandal, one that the store chose to ignore, given that it came from an anonymous sender who offered no other details.

Kennedy’s bragging to friends that he had a NSFW romance and got the NSFW photos of the journalist nearly 40 years his junior is what tipped off the boss her New York editor-in-chief David Haskell about the relationship, The Daily. The beast reported. Nuzzi initially denied the affair, the Daily Beast added, though that clearly didn’t keep up with whatever evidence Haskell had.

This corroborates the original reporting of the affair in Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter, which said that Kennedy “boasted” about the relationship.

Even those who didn’t know weren’t exactly amazed at who was tied up in the mess, according to Puck.

“After all, Lizza and Nuzzi have reveled in their pseudo-celebrity status around town,” wrote the channel’s Dylan Byers, referring to Nuzzi and her ex-fiancé, Politico’s chief Washington correspondent Ryan Liza.

Byers added that his reporting did not lead him to believe that Lizza was the one who leaked the news of the relationship — meaning that at least some who were not intimately involved became aware of the situation.

Lizza and Nuzzi are no strangers to scandal and gossip. Lizza was fired by The New Yorker in 2017 for “sexual misconduct.” In a statement at the time, Lizza said he was “appalled that The New Yorker decided to characterize a respectful relationship with a woman I dated as somewhat inappropriate.”

Nuzzi, who quickly rose through the ranks thanks to unsavory political reporting often posing as a character, admitted to trespassing at Corey Lewandowski’s home while covering the political operative.

Whether you knew, suspected, or just weren’t all that shocked, some details probably caught you off guard — including this line from Nuzzi’s statement: “The relationship was never physical, but it should have been revealed to prevent a conflict. .”

And you can’t have been the only one who pondered – and then tried not to think – exact which involved a non-physical relationship with RFK Jr. and his brain-dead worm. According to The Daily Beast, at least a few sexts were sent.
