A couple had four daughters born on the same birthday by coincidence

This essay, as stated, is based on a conversation with Kristin Lammert, 35, from South Carolina. It has been edited for length and clarity.

My husband, Nick, and I thought it was cute when our first daughter was born on August 25, 2015, to our dog, Koda’s fourth birthday.

But now that our three youngest daughters were born on the same day in 2018, 2021 and 2024, we can only believe that divine intervention was at work.

The day before giving birth to our latest child, Valentina, my oldest Sophia, 9, made a wish on a star that she would be healthy on her birthday.

The pregnancy went well, but I was hospitalized a month before my due date due to high blood pressure. I had pre-eclampsia and they were afraid it could develop into eclampsia, which would have put both me and the baby at risk.

Valentina was born on August 25. She was small at 5 pounds 12 ounces, but strong; healthy enough to not need to be in the NICU.

On a lighter note, I threw a huge party for her three sisters the week before, so it wasn’t like their mom and dad missed out on their celebration.

The timing was just a coincidence

All my tasks were different. It’s crazy to think it all ended on the same day, three years apart. None of the births were by caesarean section. I was never scheduled to be induced.

My pregnancies with Sophia and my second daughter Guilana, 6, were relatively easy. But with Mia, 3 years ago, I contracted Covid twice. I also suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, which made me throw up almost every day. But to our relief, Mia was born healthy.

As the years passed, Sophia and Guiliana – and then Mia – hoped that they would have a sister for their birthday as the greatest gift of all.

Sofia’s wish for a star came true with Valentina. I think she was worried about me and didn’t want me to be sick anymore. She also couldn’t wait to be a big sister for the third time.

People sometimes ask if I got pregnant on purpose at the end of the fall with each child. Sophia and I liked the idea of her being born in August or September because there are no big holidays. So if you could pick a month, we thought it would be fun for the first one.

But the others were conceived around the same time by chance. Timing is not how fertility works.

Our daughters feel unique and special

Another thing people tell us is, “Oh, poor children, they have to share the birthday.” But they don’t feel that way at all. We invite lots of family and friends – we hosted around 70 guests this year – and each of the girls gets their own cake.

They feel it is very special because they are exceptional children.

Meanwhile, Nick contacted Guinness World Records at the hospital on the day Valentina, now one month old, was born. We discovered that we are one child away from tying the record for children sharing the same birthday.

However, the previous parents had a set of multiples and were different genders. Maybe we’ll set a record for four girls arriving separately, three years apart.

We are not planning to have any more children. Four has always been the magic number. Valentina is the missing piece of the puzzle that makes our family lucky and complete.
