A common gardening chore that experts warn can become a snail ‘magnet’

Garden experts have issued a warning about a common gardening mistake that can attract slugs to plants.

Many gardeners may be aware of the struggle of dealing with these pesky pests, but a minor change in routine could help keep them at bay. The gardening gurus at Quintain Living suggest that changing your watering habits could go a long way in keeping these critters away from your blooming beauties.

Contrary to popular belief, making your watering rounds at dusk, just as darkness begins to creep in, is not encouraged. While it seems like a practical time to tend to your plants, this habit can unintentionally act as an invitation to slugs, which enjoy the moist conditions, the Express reports.

Sounding a note of caution, they stated: “By doing this, it will serve as a magnet for snails, who will delight in chewing their way through previous plants and seedlings.” Slugs are most active in the evening and are attracted to moisture, increasing their chances of burying your plants and seedlings.

To ward off these pests and protect your flowers, it is recommended to water them early in the morning and avoid waiting until nightfall. By doing this, you will reduce the amount of moisture that attracts slugs, lessening potential damage to your flora.

In addition to changing watering schedules, it is essential to take care of the soil to increase plant health and resistance against claims. Before planting, it is recommended to ensure that the soil is free of weeds and well prepared.
