Leeds United have again been linked with a move to sign Nat Phillips from Liverpool this summer following his loan spell at Cardiff City in the second half of the season.

The transfer strategy for Leeds is difficult to achieve at the moment, with Leeds having to navigate the playoffs before planning their Premier League spending spree.

If they are not promoted, a rebuild is on the way for Daniel Farke, with the club sure to dip into the loan market again to add top quality without paying the prices.

Nat Phillips linked up again for Leeds

The Mirror reported at the end of April that Leeds would again be interested in signing Nat Phillips from Liverpool this summer.

It comes after Leeds were heavily linked with a move last summer following relegation, but Liverpool’s £10m asking price likely let the Whites off the hook as they ended up with Joe Rodon instead.

Phillips instead moved to Celtic on loan before his deal was cut short, heading to Cardiff City for the second half of the campaign under Erol Bulut.

Rotherham 5-2 Cardiff: Nat Phillips ends season on low, Leeds should avoid

Phillips’ Cardiff side faced relegated Rotherham United on the final day away from home and it was an afternoon to forget for the Bluebirds and the centre-back did score his first goal for the club with a header.

The Millers have been virtually unstoppable in their fight to stay in the Championship this season, but with Steve Evans back in charge, they put in a five-star performance to beat Phillips’ Cardiff 5-2.

Phillips was hardly at fault for the first four goals Rotherham put away, but he helped add insult to injury when he chased down a loose ball towards his own goal before pushing a weak back pass straight into the path of to Tom Eaves for goal number five.

He won 8/9 of his nine aerial duels, but a comical error meant he and Cardiff conceded nine in the last two games of the season after being hammered by Middlesbrough – where he was responsible for two of the goals in cause of faulty positioning.

If anything, it just sums up why Leeds shouldn’t sign him – the only way he improves Leeds is through his aerial prowess, it all seems like a clear demotion to Joe Rodon or others.
