Overseas smartphone sales in China fell 12.7 percent in August, Reuters data showed

BEIJING (Reuters) – Sales of foreign-brand smartphones, including Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ: ) iPhone, in China fell 12.7 percent in August from a year earlier, according to data from a firm on Wednesday of government-affiliated research.

Calculations based on data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed that during the month, sales of foreign-branded phones in China fell to 1.87 million handsets, down from 2.142 million a year ago earlier.

Total phone sales in China rose 26.7 percent from a year earlier to 24.05 million phones in August, CAICT data showed.
