Liverpool aim to end Klopp era ‘with a bang’

Harvey Elliot says Liverpool want to end the Jurgen Klopp era “with a bang” after their standards have dipped in recent weeks.

After exiting the FA Cup in the quarter-finals at Manchester United and exiting the Europa League at the same stage against Atalanta, Liverpool have taken just five points from as many games in April to fall out of the Premier League title race.

The Reds bounced back with a convincing 4-2 win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, with Elliot’s strike in front of The Kop the pick of the goals.

With a return to the Champions League secured next season and two games to go, at Aston Villa next Monday and at home to Wolves on the final day, the Reds look to bid farewell to Klopp on the back of a hat-trick. victories.

Midfielder Elliot told the club’s website: “The last few weeks have not been good enough and we wanted to achieve a lot more.

“But with the crowd behind us and the last two games, we want to go out with a bang. We just want to win both.

“We have Champions League football next season – it’s where this club belongs and deserves to be. There will be more special nights and hopefully we can make up for it next season.”

On his superb overhead kick, the 21-year-old added: “I’ve been practicing it in training – in the last few games I’ve hit the bar and I’ve hit the bar, but I’m just happy it fell.

“This is what a child dreams of. You go to bed dreaming about it and wake up in the morning wanting to make the dream come true. Every goal is special, especially in a Liverpool shirt, but to do it at the Kop end and the way he went in with the crowd behind him is amazing.”
