China to offer single ballots to the needy By Reuters

BEIJING (Reuters) – China will distribute a one-time allowance to disadvantaged people ahead of next week’s national holiday, a government statement said.

The value of the vouchers was unspecified, but the statement late Wednesday said the plan would put cash in the hands of extremely poor people, orphans and those in need.

The allowances are to be paid before October 1, when China begins a week-long public holiday to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the government said.

She asked the regional civil affairs and finance departments to treat the initiative with “great importance” and ensure the distribution happens on time, saying the scheme shows the “concern and concern” of the Chinese Communist Party and the government for those in need.

Also late Wednesday, China’s cabinet issued guidelines on promoting high-quality and sufficient jobs, pledging to prioritize employment and improve reasonable wage growth in response to steep wage cuts and rising youth unemployment.

This week, the world’s second-largest economy unveiled some of its most aggressive stimulus measures yet.
