Shailene Woodley gives an update on ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3.

  • Shailene Woodley has reacted to the news of a potential third season of “Big Little Lies”.
  • Woodley told Business Insider that she doesn’t have much information about it and remains skeptical.
  • She said the cast wants to make it happen, but for now it “feels a little bit like a fantastic, fun dream.”

“Big Little Lies” star Shailene Woodley can’t say much about season three of the hit HBO drama — not because she’s secretive, but because she has limited information.

“I know as much as you do,” Woodley, who plays Jane Chapman, told Business Insider in our latest installment. “Role Play” interview series..

“Big Little Lies,” based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, debuted in 2017. Since season two ended in the summer of 2019, fans have wondered about the possibility of a third season.

In 2022, Zoë Kravitz said that a third season seemed unlikely following the death of the show’s original director and executive producer, Jean-Marc Vallée. (Andrea Arnold directed season two, but Valée stayed on as executive producer.)

“I can’t imagine going forward without him,” Kravitz said GQ. “He was really the visionary of that show. So, unfortunately, it’s over.”

Reese Witherspoon made similar comments in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that year, but added that “there’s definitely a deep desire for all of us to connect and create those characters again.”

Then, in November 2023, Nicole Kidman said a third season was in the works.

In the months since, Witherspoon and Kidman, both executive producers, have continued to drop bits of information and reiterate that a third season is still happening.

But Woodley, like fans, remains skeptical until he actually receives more substantial information.

“I don’t even know if it’s officially in the works,” she told BI. “I thought it was still just a rumor, but everyone, all of us, want it to happen. We all still text each other quite often saying, “I can’t wait for season three.”

“It feels a little bit like a fun fantasy dream that I’m hoping will happen, but I can’t say concretely if it does or not,” added Woodley.

Most recently, Witherspoon and Kidman gave an update, telling Vanity Fair, “We’re moving fast and furious. Liane delivers the book. We are in good shape.”

“That’s the information I have as well,” Woodley said.
