Manchester United ‘could offer one player’ in exchange for £55million centre-back

Manchester United have just two games left to play this season and attention will soon turn to the summer transfer window.

Here we are once again, about to see the end of another Manchester United League campaign.

United head to the South Coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion with Erik ten Hag looking for a win on the final day.

The Dutchman is still fighting for his job and wants to finish on a high before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Many of United’s players will have busy summers as they head towards Euro 2024 and the Copa America, but there will also be plenty to do at Old Trafford.

Ineos continue to look for major additions behind the scenes and fans will expect to see plenty of new signings as well.

Center backs are an absolute must, with United potentially needing at least two new defenders.

Raphael Varane is leaving this summer, while Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof could yet follow.

Lisandro Martinez’s injury problems are also a concern, leaving United to consider adding another left-handed centre-back.

Everton ace Jarrad Branthwaite is fit and United continue to be heavily linked with a move for him this summer.

Reports a few days ago suggested United were willing to offer £55m to secure Branthwaite’s signature.

The Daily Mail now claim that Everton are preparing for bids which have seen interest from United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton would prefer to keep Branthwaite but accept he may need to be sold to raise funds.

The report goes on to add that United may actually offer a player to Everton as part of the deal in an effort to avoid the competition.

No names have been named, but United are apparently prepared to get creative in their bid to bring the 6ft 5in defender to Manchester this summer.

Who could United send to Everton?

Wages were always going to be a stumbling block for many United players heading to Everton, while some will see the move as a huge step down.

It’s hard to imagine Lindelof, Harry Maguire or Aaron Wan-Bissaka enjoying a move to Goodison Park this summer.

One player stands out, however, and that is midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.

The Tunisian international joined Sevilla on loan in January, with the sold La Liga side holding an option to buy.

However, Hannibal has only played 94 minutes of action in La Liga, meaning he looks set to return to United this summer.

Everton actually made a move for Hannibal in January, but the midfielder decided to move to Spain instead.

Perhaps Everton’s interest in Hannibal remains and they can give him another chance to join Sean Dyche’s side.

Questions remain over the future of Toffees midfielder Amadou Onana and Hannibal could still be on the radar as a potential replacement.

There aren’t many other names jumping around for a potential move to Everton, but perhaps United will spring a surprise with a summer deal.
