This rifle has been a favorite of the military since the First World War

Pump-action rifles differ from many semi-automatic or self-loading rifles. Pump actions can reliably load different types of ammunition, from heavy loads to lighter loads. They are a favorite of law enforcement and the military. Soldiers have used these rifles in the US military since World War I. In 2020, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Americans bought nearly 2.4 million rifles.

Using a report from Gun Genius, which analyzed sales data from GunBroker.com, 24/7 Wall St. identified the 10 most popular pump action shotguns in America. The rifles are ranked by sales volume in the 2023 calendar year, although exact sales figures have not been provided. Additional data on domestic production locations and production volume in 2021 comes from ATF. These 10 firearms are produced by six gun manufacturers, including four models from OF Mossberg & Sons and two from the Herstal Group, a company that owns the Browning and Winchester brands.
