After 43 years working for one investment research firm or another, I finally retired. So now I am completely independent. And for the first time at Seeking Alpha, I won’t be working off of anyone else’s product schedule. I have only one goal now… to provide you with the best investment prospects possible. I have long specialized in rule/factor based stock investment strategies. But I am different from others who share such backgrounds. I don’t use the numbers. Instead, the numbers serve me… to inspire HI (Human Intelligence) powered investment stories. I definitely understand quant investing, including factors and what not (AI before it was called AI). But I disagree with what other quantities do. Instead of obsessing over statistical studies that are not good for time periods other than the ones being studied, I combine factor work with the underlying theories of finance, including classical fundamental analysis, to get the true story of a company and its actions. Investment means future. So numbers (which necessarily live in the past) can only take us so far. They are at their best when they point us to stories that shed light on what is likely to happen in the future. And that’s how I use them, I’ve had quite a colorful career. In addition to a full range of experience covering stocks from lots of different groups (large cap, small cap, micro cap, value, growth, income, special situations…you name it, we’ve got it covered) I’ve developed and worked with many different quantities. models. In addition, I previously managed a high-yield fixed income (“junk bond”) fund and conducted research involving quantitative asset allocation strategies such as the basis of what has today become known as Robo Advising . I have edited and/or written several stock newsletters, most notably the Forbes Low Price Stocks Report. Previously, I was Assistant Director of Research at Value Line. I also have a long-standing passion for investor education, which has led to conducting numerous seminars on stock selection and analysis and authoring two books: Screening The Market and The Value Connection. Looking forward to my new incarnation on Seeking Alpha. I hope you like what I have to offer. But if not, feel free to tell me why in the comments sections. I’m a big boy. I can handle criticism. (But please don’t call me “stupid.” That’s my wife’s business!)
