Latest Summit Snub: Starmer Responds As Elon Musk…

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hit back at Elon Musk after the tech mogul said people should not go to Britain.

The chief executive of Tesla TSLA and SpaceX has hit out at the UK after it was reported he was not invited to a major investment summit because of his social media posts during the summer riots.

Musk said: “I don’t think anyone should go to the UK when they release convicted pedophiles to jail people for posting on social media.”

Starmer, who organized a meeting of US business leaders due to attend the summit while in New York, told reporters that Musk’s views were in “stark contrast” to those of the executives he met.

He said business leaders described the breakfast they had with him during his visit to New York as “the best meeting they’ve had” during the United Nations General Assembly, which sees political leaders from around the world.

“There’s a very strong window of opportunity now with the UK, given the changes we’ve brought in, our number one mission on economic growth and speaking to them through the wealth fund, the industrial strategy, what we’re doing in terms of. planning, grids, etc.,” Starmer said.

“So I’m listening well and hard to what they have to say because they will be attending the summit and many of them are already investing in the UK.

“On Tesla. Obviously, I encourage investment from anywhere, so I don’t want to be misunderstood about that. So I’m very, very keen to promote good investment in the UK.”

It is understood that SpaceX has been invited to send a representative to the summit in October.

Musk’s absence from the summit follows his promotion of false claims in relation to the summer disturbance. After three children were killed in a stabbing attack in Southport and violence erupted in the UK, X owner Musk posted on his platform suggesting that a civil war in the UK was “inevitable” and attacking the first – minister.

His claim about the UK’s release of prisoners came after 1,700 prisoners were released early from their sentences in the first phase of the government’s plan to tackle overcrowding. Sex offenders are excluded from politics.

Starmer’s push for overseas investment is part of his “mission” to spark economic growth.

Despite the government’s plan to nationalize the railways and the launch of publicly owned Great British Energy, Starmer said: “By and large, I think business is best run by those in the private sector.

“So the ideal model, as far as I’m concerned, is that the government of the day sets the strategic agenda, if you will, the five missions in my case. This is the right thing to do for a democratic and elected government. .

“Then we partner with business and make a big business request, which is ‘come with us and do our missions with us’, in this case, economic growth, and government is your partner in that.

“And that means making sure the conditions are good for investment and good for business. Hence the work we do planning, what we do on the network. What are we doing with the National Wealth Fund.

“GB Energy wants to be a catalyst, as well as an energy company, to ensure we can remove the bumps for those who want to get on board with our net zero mission.

“I think the railways must become public property. I think anyone who has traveled by train recently would give a big thumbs up, as does the British public. I think GB Energy needs to be a public entity while we harvest. the opportunities.

“But as a general proposition, I think businesses are best run by companies.”
