Coventry City’s transfer update comes as captain Preston’s ‘record’ bid has been revealed

Preston look set to step up their bid to keep their desired captain Alan Browne amid “interest” from Coventry City and newly relegated Sheffield United.

Alan Nixon of The Sun reported earlier this month that the Sky Blues are keen on the versatile 29-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract this summer after ten years at Deepdale, including nine seasons in the Championship. The experienced Browne can play in multiple roles in the middle of the park as well as outfield and has scored four goals and provided four assists for his side over the past year.

Mark Robins is understood to be looking to add to his midfield following the release of Liam Kelly and the imminent confirmation of Callum O’Hare’s departure. Browne is weighing his options and it appears there are a number of offers on the table for him.

But Coventry’s chances of landing Browne – a Republic of Ireland international with 35 caps for his country – appear to be fading, according to transfer specialist Nixon, who claims on his Patreon platform: “Preston’s chances of keeping the sender Alan Browne are on the rise as rivals battle it out. to match their offer.

“Republic of Ireland midfielder Browne has been offered a record deal but has had rival interest from Sheffield United and Coventry. However, the North End pack is bigger and Browne could commit to them in the coming weeks.

City owner Doug King recently revealed that the club’s recruitment department is “busy” when it comes to this summer’s transfer window as they look to sign Robins to help strengthen his squad in his bid to to promote next season.
