Markel, the insurance operations of Markel Group Inc., has announced a trio of key appointments as part of a strategic move to diversify its international claims portfolio and strengthen its wholesale claims service for broker partners.

Lauren Percival

New arrivals include Lauren Percivalwho has been appointed as executive underwriter – General Liability, with immediate effect. Her main responsibilities will include supporting the sustainable expansion of Markel’s general liability portfolio alongside James Murray who was hired as head of general liability earlier this year.

Percival will also be responsible for identifying areas to continue to drive profitable growth and ensuring that high levels of service and response times are maintained for brokers and their policyholders.

Percival brings 18 years of underwriting experience and expertise in the London market to her new role. Prior to joining Markel, she held senior insurance roles at Arch Insurance International and Chaucer Plc respectively. Prior to this, Percival worked for QBE Insurance (Europe) Ltd for 13 years, during which time he progressed to Senior Underwriter, International Casualty Division, where he established a strong client network and managed a profitable risk book of business writing in South America. , the Middle East, Asia and the Caribbean, among other territories.

Olivia Hogan

Along with Percival, Olivi Hogan was appointed senior underwriter at Markel. In her new role, Hogan will support him Graeme Ivorydirector, International Casualty, with developing the organization’s environmental liability product offering by underwriting a market-leading diversified portfolio of businesses, ensuring long-term profitable growth. Hogan is an experienced underwriter with 12 years’ experience in the London market, specializing in strategic underwriting. Previously, she spent more than six years at AIG as owner of the insurer’s UK environmental business line, where she led a team of four underwriters managing a profitable portfolio of environmental insurance.

Edward Norman

Norman has a wealth of industry knowledge and experience spanning two decades and was most recently employed at AXA XL for more than nine years. Prior to his employment with AXA XL, Norman held the role of claims adjuster at MSIG Holdings where he handled losses and claims settlements on a global scale.

Based in Markel’s London office, Percival will report directly to Murray, while Hogan will report to Ivory and Norman will report to Thomas UptonHead of Claims, Marine and Energy.

BHSI announces 2 promotions to UK and Global teams

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) announced that he appointed Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite to its Global Underwriting Office for Casualty & Healthcare and promoted Charlotte Behar to succeed Alder-Smurthwaite as Head of Casualty, UK.
