Willie Peters comes down from the coaches’ box to reprimand the officials in the Challenge Cup semi-final

Hull KR face Wigan Warriors in a repeat of last season’s Challenge Cup semi-final, but instead of it being a tight affair as it was in 2023, Matt Peet’s side are on top early.

Last year’s match at Headingley was decided by a Brad Schneider drop goal to send the Robins to Wembley for the first time since 2015. Unfortunately for Hull KR, it was another big game defeat, this time a drop goal coming against them as Lachlan. Lam was written into the history books.

It looks like Hull KR may not visit Wembley this year though, with the Robins trailing 18-0 approaching half-time, but it was the second try that caused a row with Hull KR boss Willie Peters , apparently angry about her preparation.

Wigan’s number four put the Warriors 4-0 up after just four minutes, the 2023 Harry Sunderland Award winner scoring with ease as he exposed Hull KR’s right flank.

The Robins struggled to get a foothold in the game early on with possession constantly being given to Wigan and Hull KR seemingly gave the ball back to Wigan which saw Willie Peters smoke.

After a high bomb from Tyrone May saw Jai Field catch the ball near the goal line, referee Chris Kendall awarded Wigan a penalty which saw them start in much better territory.

It was not clear if it was awarded due to a Hull KR player tackling Field after catching the ball squarely in the goal area or if there was another infringement such as an offside. Whatever Wigan was given brilliant territory and Matt Peet’s side capitalized on it before scoring through Abbas Miski.

The Lebanon international caught a brilliant strike from Frenchman Bevan in the corner, but afterwards the Hull KR head coach apparently stormed onto the pitch to confront the fourth official.

This was revealed by the BBC’s Tanya Arnold, who said: “While we were getting the video referee’s decision there, Willie Peters came down from where he was watching the game to have some very strong words with the fourth official.

“He’s not happy with some of the decisions that went against his team and he certainly didn’t feel Wigan deserved a penalty in the build-up to that try.”

From that try Wigan added three more with Junior Nsemba pouncing, Abbas Miski adding a second to complete his brace after a Joe Burgess error and Harry Smith also chipping in. As a result, the Super League champions went 24-0 and look to be heading for the Challenge Cup final.
