A huge rock band signs for an extended residency in the Las Vegas Strip Sphere

Sphere Entertainment’s Sphere Las Vegas debuted 40 shows of U2/UV Achtung Baby Live at rock superstar U2’s Sphere residency in September 2023 and brought the first of many spectacular tech showcases to the new venue’s stage.

The Sphere continued to book superstar acts at the 18,600-seat venue, which can seat 20,000, after U2 ended their residency. The Sphere welcomed jam band Phish for a brief four-show engagement in April and followed those shows with Grateful Dead spinoff band Dead & Company, which has scheduled 30 shows at the Las Vegas Sphere from May 16 through August 10, 2024 .

U2 will likely record more music and embark on more concert tours, but the success of its Sphere residency will likely prompt the band to sign up for another residency in the next few years.

Phish continues to tour and has booked a four-night New Year’s Eve holiday engagement, December 28-31, 2024, at New York’s Madison Square Garden. A ticket request period ends on October 7 at noon EST at Phish.com. Don’t be surprised if Phish plays another limited engagement at the Sphere one day.

Dead & Company finished their final concert tour at San Francisco’s Oracle Park on July 16, 2023 and are not expected to tour again, but many expect a return to the Sphere after a successful 30-show residency.

The Eagles, who have performed farewell tours since 2003’s ‘Farewell 1 Tour’, said they have ended their touring career with a performance on the ‘Long Goodbye’ tour in the Netherlands on June 15, 2024.

Fans of the band have heard of the band’s plans to retire from touring for over 20 years, and many are skeptical that the band will stop touring.

Fans have good reason to wonder if the band will ever retire, as the band’s late singer/guitarist Glenn Frey dismissed the idea of them retiring at Farewell 1 during a 2005 show in Sacramento, saying, “If you pay. ‘, we are playing’.
