Polymarket punters favor Len Sassaman as Satoshi in HBO documentary

Polymarket punters are favoring Len Sassaman over Hal Finney as the potential Satoshi in the upcoming HBO documentary. Sassaman currently leads the poll with a 49% chance, while Finney’s odds are at 14%.

Cryptographer Len Sassaman is famous for his work on privacy tools like PGP and Mixmaster. Its commitment to privacy and decentralization closely aligns with Bitcoin’s core principles.

Sassaman’s tragic death in 2011, shortly after Satoshi’s disappearance, fueled speculation that the two could be the same person. Satoshi has not been online again since December 13, 2010.

Meanwhile, speculation that Hal Finney may have been Satoshi stems from the fact that Finney was the first person to download and run Bitcoin software after Satoshi. It also received the first Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi in January 2009, which established a direct link between them.

Finney’s early involvement with Bitcoin and its community has sparked speculation about his identity as Bitcoin’s creator. The theory is that Finney kept his identity a secret to protect his privacy and avoid government scrutiny.

Aside from Sassaman and Finney, other plausible candidates for HBO’s Satoshi are prominent computer scientist and cryptographer Nicholas Szabo and Blockstream CEO Adam Back.

Craig Wright is not Nakamoto, according to a UK court ruling, but for some reason he made the list. His share is now 2%. Elon Musk joined the poll with a less than 1% chance.

The Polymarket survey was opened after HBO announced that it will release a documentary next week titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” that claims to expose the identity of Bitcoin’s creator.
