The Case for Congressional Focus on Decentralized AI

That’s why it’s imperative that lawmakers don’t overlook decentralized AI as they begin to regulate AI. Human nature is likely to be ignored as the wider AI industry explodes and is dominated by some of the world’s largest corporations. They acquire startups, promote advancements and launch new products at a breakneck pace. While there is nothing wrong with Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet and others investing heavily in the industry, lawmakers need to create space for researchers, entrepreneurs and developers to thrive; this involves, among other things, remaining vigilant about antitrust and making sure that government-backed research and development funds don’t just benefit the giants.
